Take a walk through our garden and learn about the magnificent butterfly.
We are in the process of building our fun and interactive educational butterfly garden. Here’s a sneak preview of the things we are making to illustrate the four-stages of butterfly life. The butterfly egg, caterpillar, and chrysalis are first molded with chicken wire and then covered with Type S Cement for the first layer, followed with Rapid Set Mortar Mix to give them their final shape.
The molded butterfly egg weighs about 250 lbs, the caterpillar about 65 lbs, and the chrysalis about 35 lbs. These three objects still need to be spray-painted, with leaves made out of sheet metal then added to give the finishing touch to this project. The fourth and final stage, the enormous butterfly made by Gayleen, our Artistic Director, is approximately 12 ft x 12 ft. A sight to behold!
