The Wonder of Creation
The above photos show different views of the exact same blue and gold macaw feather. In looking at it straight on, we can see that it’s a beautiful deep blue color. But when held up to the light, a funny thing happens. The blue disappears and all we see is black or brown or grey. No blue anywhere.
The reason for this is pigment, or rather, lack of pigment. Why nature created this is perhaps as a protection for the bird whose feather this is. If they are prey from above, below and all sides, a darker or not-as-stunning color when they’re flying about, could be a way for them to survive!
