Lovebirds or Love Birds
Lovebirds are among the smallest parrots, they average 5 to 7 inches in length and 1 1/2 to 2 ounces in weight. Although very social and affectionate, their name comes from their strong pair-bonding and the long periods of time they spend sitting together.
Wild-type lovebirds are mostly green with a wide variety of colors on their upper body, depending upon their species. Many color mutant varieties have been produced by selective breeding of the species. In the wild, Lovebirds live in small flocks. Their diet generally consists of fruit, vegetables, grasses and seeds. Some species are kept as pets and their average lifespan is 10 -15 years.
