During the months before COVID, Birds on the Brink Sanctuary (BOTB) successfully hosted its very first field trip for The Georgia School for Innovation and The Classics.
Fun and interactive Learning Stations were set up throughout the sanctuary, each with its own BOTB guide. Students were able to crawl into life-size bird cages, explore Sarah’s Butterfly World, and experience augmented reality tablets in our Science Center.
Under a dark tent, our mineral rock expert, John Rofrano, welcomed students to handle glowing mineral rocks and learn all about why they fluoresced. Of course, Fiona, our animal ambassador, stole the spotlight as she candidly perched on students’ arms. Bob Courtright and Larry Johnson were happy to answer any questions and give information on careers involving veterinary medicine and avian care.
The field trip ended with each child receiving a free gift bag full of Science goodies. Birds on the Brink was incredibly proud to host this group of smart and well-mannered students.
We will continue to offer field trips throughout the school year. We ask that interested teachers or administrators contact us for more information and to schedule their very own Discovery Tour. Private tours are also available to the public.
