Bentley: “Leo, I have some sad news to share.”
Leo: “What is it Bentley?”
Bentley: “I lost my good buddy, Diego.”
Leo: “I’m so sorry Bentley. Your heart must really be sad.”
Bentley: “Leo you’re a lucky bird. As a Macaw you can live a very long time!
So, Leo, why do you think dogs don’t live as long as some birds? You know the average life expectancy of dogs ranges from 8 - 15 years, and the average life expectancy of a Macaw like yourself is over 100 years.”
Leo: “Yep, isn’t that crazy?! Often we parrots outlive our Companion owners. This is why it’s so important to have a place like ‘Birds on the Brink Sanctuary.’ It’s a safe place for endangered birds to be cared for and live out their lives.
You know, it takes a special person, a “bird person” to care for birds, Bentley. That’s why it’s really important for people to prepare for our future care. Not just anybody will take us.
There are a lot of options we can talk about next time when your heart feels better!”
